This guide is designed to help you protect that experience while allowing us and trusting us to document your day with intention, artistry, and ease.
Part one: preparing in the weeks leading up
- Build a Relaxed, Realistic Timeline
A luxury wedding experience isn't about packing more into the day ... it's about creating margin.
We strongly recommend:
- Padding each section of the day by 30-45 minutes
- Finishing your hair & makeup the same time we arrive so once we finish getting detail photos you will be ready to get into your dress.
- Avoiding back-to-back events with no buffer ... do you really need 15 different first looks?
When your timeline has breathing room:
- You feel calmer
- You won't feel like you are wrangling a circus of people
- Portraits feel natural
- The day unfolds as it should - not rushed
Don't worry, we will send you a questionnaire to help us build a timeline for you. If you are working with a planner or day of coordinator, please be sure to send us their contact information so we can send them our photography timeline we curate for you.
Preparing Your family portrait List
(Quality over Quantity)
To protect your timeline:
- Limit family groupings to immediate family and must-have combinations
- Avoid extended or distant relatives during formal portraits
- Keep the list concise and intentional
- Designate one person who knows the families on both sides to get them gathered and to stay put - this again can turn into a situation where it feels like you are wrangling chickens
A helpful rule:
If this person isn't deeply involved in your daily life, they don't need to be included in formal portraits.
Why this matters:
- Running over on family portraits often shortens your bride and groom portraits
- It can delay your reception entrance
- If shifts focus away from you and your spouse - THIS IS YOUR DAY!

We will respect your decision either way, but we wanted to give you a list of benefits.

- Better lighting flexibility for portraits - you will have more moments and opportunities for portraits without being stopped by guests repeatedly
- Fewer photos rushed after the ceremony - we can focus on remaining family portraits if needed and then just golden hour portraits - we can then focus on guest interactions and enjoy the celebration of you two getting married

Ceremony Timing & Light matters more than you think...
Light can make or break how your ceremony images look and here are some things to consider:
- Midday ceremonies often create harsh light and unflattering shadows
- Overhead sun can cause squinting and sun spots on faces
- Late-afternoon or early evening ceremonies provide softer, more even light
If your ceremony is outdoors we recommend:
- Scheduling it closer to golden hour
- Using partial shade or a shaded alter when possible.
Our ceremony in these portraits was an hour before sunset, after our ceremony we dismissed our guests and went straight into our golden hour portraits.
This ensures:
- Flattering skin tones
- Consistent exposure
- A more cinematic, editorial look
When touring your venue ask where the sun will be during the time your ceremony to get a better idea.

Part Two: The wedding Day - Getting ready with intention
Choosing a clean, light-filled prep space
Your getting ready space sets the tone for your entire gallery.
Ideal spaces include:
- Large windows
- Neutral walls
- Minimal decor
- Room to move comfortably
Avoid overcrowding the space with:
- Suitcases
- Food containers and drinks
- Shopping bags
Designate one person to help keep the room tidy - this small step makes a massive difference in your photos.
Having Details Ready & Organized
Details are photographed as soon as we arrive so we always ask that they are ready to grab in a box or bag.
- Invitation suite
- Rings
- Shoes
- Jewelry
- Vows or letters
- Perfume and cologne
- Sentimental items
Having those ready allows us to work efficiently without interrupting your experience.
Florals
Ask your florist to set aside a few extra stems for your flat lays.
This goes for even faux florals.
What you wear matters while getting ready
These moments are intimate and emotional and they will be photographed.
Choose:
- Neutral robes or pajamas
- Long robes for the drama / short robes for the sass
- Clean, logo free fabrics
This keeps the focus on you, not distractions.

Embrace your natural complexion or have a professional spray tan. Please do not self tan at home yourself.
Groom Prep is just as important
Groom prep should feel just as intentional, not rushed.
Tips:
- Choose a clean, well lit space
- Keep bags and boxes out of sight
- Shirt and pants should always be on starting your portraits as our grooms get their own portion for getting ready
- Groomsmen should already be dressed and sitting aside so we can fully focus on your grooms photos
These moments photograph beautifully when there's space to slow down.
